The Registering Authority grants a certificate of registration and assigns a registration mark for the vessel. It is the duty of the owner and master of the vessel to keep the certificate of registration on board the steam vessel and to produce it on demand by the Registering Authority or by any such authority as may be notified by Government in the Official Gazette.
On receipt of the application for registration the Registering Authority if it considers an inspection of the boat/vessel necessary the Competent Authority (DIWT) send a Surveyor to conduct survey of the Boat/Vessel.
The Registering Authority shall, after satisfying itself that the provision of the Act and the Rules made there under have been complied with grant a certificate of registration and assign a registration mark for the vessel
He/she should be the owner of an insured boat/vessel
Deposition fees includes Survey fee, Registration fee and fee for Helmsmen and Driver , which are to be deposited in advance through treasury Challan in the name of Director, Inland Water Transport, Assam.
A person or intending party needs to submit filled in Form along with the following documents:
The application should be made at least 15 days before the date on which the registration certificate is desired.
A person or intending party can directly approach Registering Authority (DIWT Office) and request for registration form or the form can be downloaded from Schedule I below (to be collected from the DIWT Office during office hours) for registration of his/her Passenger/ Cargo boat/vessel.
